From bud to wow

How your Amaryllis will bloom its best in a vase

The Amaryllis's transformation is truly magical: it goes from a humble bud to an impressive, full bloom. As a florist, how can you make the most of this amazing change? In this article, we're sharing practical care tips and clever tricks to help you surprise your customers with an Amaryllis that shines brightly for days.

The magic of the Amaryllis

The Amaryllis is one of those unique flowers that goes through such an amazing transformation: from a tight bud to a full, elegant bloom. With the right care, you can help it complete this beautiful change and keep your flower looking lovely for longer.

Cutting at the right time

Cut the stem when the bud is just beginning to turn colour but is still closed. This allows the flower to open gently and remains firm longer. Always use a sharp knife and cut the stem at an angle for optimal water absorption.

Prevent stem breakage

Amaryllis stems are hollow, so they can sometimes snap because of the heavy blooms. To prevent this, wrap the bottom of the stem with floral tape or shrink wrap, and use a support stick if you need to.

Water, light, and temperature

Put your Amaryllis in clean, lukewarm water and change it every two days. Keep the area cool, and try to avoid direct sunlight and drafts. Don't put the stem too deep in the water; about 10 cm is perfect to help prevent bacteria from growing.
